The Falmouth Road Race is a 7 mile (11k) point to point race and is surely one of the most scenic running courses in the US. The race begins in Woods Hole, Massachusetts on the southwestern tip of Cape Cod. While in Woods Hole, check out Pie in the Sky bakery for a great cup of coffee which you can enjoy with a tasty slice of pie or a savory filled croissant.
The first three miles of the race course are narrow with short, steep hills. The road winds past the Nobska Point lighthouse and then enters a tree-shaded section of road with rolling hills. The last four miles are in the open along Martha’s Vineyard Sound. Overall it’s a fast course that attracts many world class runners. This year’s race on August 13th was the 39th running and almost 11,000 runners completed the race. Lucas Rotich (Kenya) won the men’s race in 31:37 and Magdalena Lewy-Boulet (CA) was the first woman at 36:58. The top man and woman in the wheelchair division were Krige Schabort (GA) 24:16 and Jessica Galli (IL) 31:57.
